Group Algebras of Finite Groups as Lie Algebras

We consider the natural Lie algebra structure on the (associative) group algebra of a finite group G, and show that the Lie subalgebras associated to natural involutive antiautomorphisms of this group algebra are reductive ones. We give a decomposition in simple factors of these Lie algebras, in terms of the ordinary representations of G. MSC 2000 : 20C15,17B99.

Terwilliger Algebras of Some Group Association Schemes

The Terwilliger algebra plays an important role in the theory of association schemes. The present paper gives the explicit structures of the Terwilliger algebras of the group association schemes of the nite groups PSL(2, 7), A6, and S6.

Wreath Products in Modular Group Algebras of Some Finite 2-groups

Let K be field of characteristic 2 and let G be a finite nonabelian 2-group with the cyclic derived subgroup G′, and there exists a central element z of order 2 in Z(G)\G′. We prove that the unit group of the group algebra KG possesses a section isomorphic to the wreath product of a group of order 2 with the derived subgroup of the group G, giving for such groups a positive answer to the questi...

The homotopy groups of the automorphism group of Kirchberg algebras

We compute the homotopy groups of the automorphism group of Kirchberg algebras. More generally, we calculate the homotopy classes ŒX;Aut.A/ for a Kirchberg algebra A and a path connected metrizable compact space X satisfying a natural continuity property. Mathematics Subject Classification (2000). 46L40, 46L80.

Submonoids of Groups, and Group-representability of Restricted Relation Algebras

Marek Kuczma asked in 1980 whether for every positive integer n, there exists a subsemigroup M of a group G, such that G is equal to the n-fold product M M−1M M−1 . . . M(−1) n−1 , but not to any proper initial subproduct of this product. We answer his question affirmatively, and prove a more general result on representing a certain sort of relation algebra by subsets of a group. We also sketch...
